Thrift Store Finds: McDonald’s EPCOT Millennium Cup

Posted by

Many people won’t believe that in the 80’s through the early 2000’s McDonald’s and Disney went together like ketchup and fries. McDonald’s had a contract with Disney to promote movies, TV shows, and theme parks. McDonald’s would have Disney themed Happy Meal toys and collectable glasses.

McDonald’s and Disney’s relationship came to an end in 2007. One of the main speculations on why Disney ended their relationship with McDonald’s is because Disney didn’t want to be associated with a company that has, and still is, being linked to childhood obesity. Disney and McDonald’s still state, to this day, that the break-up was mutual.

Since McDonald’s and Disney parted ways it’s somewhat difficult to find McDonald-Disney items. Which is why they are one of my favorite items to collect. I also get very nostalgic when I see a McDonald-Disney item. As a child I had to have whatever Disney Happy Meal toy or collectible glass that was available. That is why when I found this gem I had to have it. See the detailed images after the jump.

This particular glass is from when Walt Disney World was celebrating the New Millennium. There were 4 glasses you were able to collect, and each glass is themed after one of the four theme parks at Walt Disney World (Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, EPCOT, and Hollywood Studios). The glass that I found is themed after EPCOT, my favorite Walt Disney World park.

I always love when Disney uses Magical Mickey on their items.

World Showcase

Disney’s New Millennium logo was tacky but I do like the hidden Mickey within the zeros.

EPCOT logo, Spaceship Earth, and more Mickey ears!
You don’t usually see things made in France.

I’ll make sure to post more of what I find on my Disney thrift shop adventures. Let me know in the comment section what other Disney items you would like me to search for. I’m always up for a good challenge.
